Nice, positive review of Warrior Wisewoman 2 in this month's Analog.

Well, if we can get people to think before getting married, maybe...we'll have more happy couples? I dunno.

I wasn't going to talk about him, but...

Years ago, my father took one look at Michael Jackson and his new baby and said 'He's not the father'.

Well, guess what.

First, I am an idiot. I forgot about the Apollo 11 anniversary.

Clear forgot.

What kind of science fiction writer am I?

Second of all...turns out the driver of that train did try to stop it. The brakes failed. Sigh. And chaos still continues.

And I'm tired.

I'm alive.

It's a bad day when one has to title a blog post that and not mean it in any metaphorical or rhetorical manner.

No, I was nowhere near the fatal Metro crash...a crash that appears to have been caused by a bizarre combination of factors.

The computer should have stopped the train. It didn't.

The driver should have stopped the train. She didn't even try.

My personal theory on the matter is that the forty two year old train operator...fell asleep at the wheel. True, she had only been a driver for a few weeks. But on an open stretch of track like that even the most inexperienced driver would have seen the accident coming and tried to stop.

And NTSB...don't whine about the safety of metro cars. No amount of crash proofing is going to help in an accident that bad.

I'm all...

Straight white men.

Warrior Wisewoman 2

This anthology contains one of my stories, and just got this great review from Library Journal. Maybe this means your library will have it soon!

Warrior Wisewoman 2. Norilana. Jun. 2009. c.272p. ed. by Roby James. ISBN 978-1-60762-028-0. pap. $11.95. SF

In "The Executioner," Jennifer Brissett tells an eerie tale of a woman randomly chosen to serve as a one-time bringer of death, while in Jennifer R. Povey's "Working the High Steel," a Mohawk woman defies her gender to traverse the "high beams" of space construction. Other contributors include Ian Whates, Ardath Mayhar, Jeff Crook, and Kate MacLeod. VERDICT The 15 original stories in this theme collection explore the many roles of women in the future, as warrior, nurturer, or sometimes both. A good selection for larger sf collections.

Thank you Jennifer Brissett for spotting that one.

Haven't I been saying for years that Iran was a self-solving problem?

I think we may be seeing the start of it...but I also fear that there may be extensive violence in the future. It's something to keep an eye on.

I fear mob rule.

I fear...I'm not sure, but I'm definitely going to be watching what happens.

...as my dad used to call a thief. He mostly saved this for a dog who took another dog's toy, or for otherwise petty thievery.

I think the thief plaguing the western German town of Foehren probably qualifies. Apparently, it's normal in Germany to leave your shoes outside your front door when you go inside.

Well, somebody was stealing shoes. Not just one here and there, but over a hundred shoes. They were finally discovered...

...in the den of a local fox.

Amazingly, most of the shoes were in fact undamaged...although they have yet to find many of the laces.
